TFL Review Summary

The SKB RS400T High Trap Rib elevates SKB’s semi-auto target lineup with a dedicated trap-focused configuration that’s highly adjustable, reliable, and built to grow with the shooter. This model adds a noticeably higher rib, oversized controls, and SKB’s signature modular stock system, making it especially appealing for youth shooters or anyone who needs a gun that can be dialed in with precision. The hybrid operating system—combining a rotating bolt head with a gas-assisted piston—delivers smooth cycling and impressively light recoil across everything from light 1-oz target shells to heavier field loads.

Ergonomically, the gun carries a slight forward balance that supports a smooth, steady trap swing. The real highlight is the fully adjustable stock, offering customizable comb height, cast, and a vertically adjustable butt pad that helps shooters lock in their sight picture and shoulder pocket connection. The trigger runs a little heavier than ideal, but it is still manageable on the line. Reliability was excellent throughout testing, and the oversized loading port and controls make operation easy—even in cold conditions. The only minor quirk is that closing the bolt can trigger a voice-activated trap thrower, so some awareness is needed on the line.

On the field, the RS400T High Trap Rib proved to be a soft-shooting, smooth-swinging performer. Once the point of impact was understood (around 60/40 in testing), the gun settled into a consistent groove and crushed clays with confidence. For shooters looking for a dedicated trap semi-auto with big-gun adjustability, dependable performance, and a very approachable price tag, the RS400T High Trap Rib is a strong contender.
